MWPC PASTOR NOMINATING COMMITTEE (PNC)
PROGRESS

April 30, 2017
The Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) has moved into the next phase of the process to bring the right candidate to MWPC as the next Pastor/Head of Staff. From reviewing the Personal Information Forms (PIF) of close to one hundred candidates, the committee has completed second interviews of what has been deemed the most viable candidates. Pulpit visits have been made by committee members to meet and get to know the candidates and their families and to observe them in worship in their current church environment. Dates have been set to begin to bring candidates to Cincinnati, allowing them opportunity to get to know MWPC and the committee members. We’re in an exciting phase of this journey, full of hope and promise; please share the excitement!

As always, the committee appreciates your patience and prayers and are open to your questions, while keeping the confidentiality of the process as a priority:  Tari Anderson, Ken Hamilton, Sandy Jones-Croxton, Bill Klingeman, Debra Ruehlman, Bill Ryan, Theo Tucker, Linda Ulrey and Jill Moormann, Presbytery Committee on Ministry Rep.

The Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) continues on the journey of searching for the next pastor/head of staff for MWPC. Weekly meetings continue, new Personal Information Forms (PIFs) continue to be received which deserve research and consideration. Face to face interviews, checking references, making pulpit visits, discerning potential candidates to invite to Cincinnati all are the tasks in progress. Please keep in mind that the congregation has given this committee an important responsibility for the future of this church; the committee continues to do its best to find the right candidate to answer our call – they will settle for nothing less!

The Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) has recently completed the second round of candidate interviews. This past week the PNC began the process of discernment after a series of wonderful interviews – which has made our task more difficult!  Being in Lent and with Easter approaching, our process has slowed down abit; we are assessing where we are in relationship to crating questions of candidates’ references, contacting the references and inviting candidates and their families to Cincinnati.

As always we appreciate your patience and prayers and are open to your questions, while keeping the confidentiality of the process as a priority:  Tari Anderson, Ken Hamilton, Sandy Jones-Croxton, Bill Klingeman, Debra Ruehlman, Bill Ryan, Theo Tucker, Linda Ulrey and Jill Moormann, Presbytery Committee on Ministry Rep.

It’s getting exciting! Even tho the weekly meetings of 2+ hours have become twice weekly meetings of 3+ hours and the extra preparation has increased, the committee remains energetic and focused. The list of candidates has been narrowed and the committee has moved into the second interview phase. These second interviews demand a new set of more in-depth questions; time has been spent creating new questions which reflect the committe’s knowledge of the specific candidate’s Personal Information Form (PIF) and current church setting.
As always, the committee asks for your prayers as the journey continues: Bill Ryan, Linda Ulrey, Tari Anderson, Ken Hamilton, Bill Klingeman, Sandy Jones-Croxton, Debra Ruehlman, Theo Tucker, Jill Moormann, Presbytery of Cincinnati rep.

January 18, 2017
With the beginning of the new year, your Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) now finds itself meeting two and three times weekly, as the Committee moves further along the process of the Presbyterian call system. Candidate Personal Information Forms (PIF) continue to be received, which require initial study and research to discern whether the candidate may be a possible match for MWPC. At the same time, it has been determined that other PIFs merit further research and consideration. The task of crafting telephone interview questions has been completed; the committee confident that the questions adequately reflect a broad spectrum of information to be gleaned from candidates.

As always, this congregational communication ends with the request to please keep this committee in your prayers as they travel this journey:  Tari Anderson, Ken Hamilton, Sandy Jones-Croxton, Bill Klingeman, Debra Ruehlman, Bill Ryan, Theo Tucker, Linda Ulrey and Jill Moormann, Presbytery Committee on Ministry Rep.

December 6, 2016
Even during this busy Advent season, your Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) continues to meet weekly, sifting through and narrowing the field of potential candidates’ Personal Information Forms (PIF) received. These PIFs come to the committee through one of three ways: self-referral, computerized match of those meeting a high number of our ten key leadership competencies via the PCUSA Church Leadership Connection or a referral from a general presbyter. We continue to network for potential candidates through a variety of sources as we receive new PIFs; do you have a former pastor or a pastor-friend who might know of someone in their clergy circle who could be a good match for MWPC? Let us know!

The committee has crafted an updated Pastor/Head of Staff Position Description which has now been sent to Resource Ministry – Personnel. Anticipating the next phase of beginning the interview process, the committee continues the task of creating a set of interview questions and determining the logistics of the interview process. Please visit the MWPC website: mwpc-church.org under Pastor Search to familiarize yourself with the journey of this PNC.

November 13, 2016
Your Pastor Nominating Committee gathered their 20th meeting since June.  At an average of two hours each meeting, we’ve put in at least 40 hours of time together and several hours individually on PNC tasks: reviewing  Personal Information Forms (PIFs), researching potential candidates, listening to  sermons, etc. for a total of 32 committee hours/week. The tasks basically remain the same at this point of the journey.  Having now received over 50 Personal Information Forms (PIF s) from potential candidates, much time is spent on review and research. Publicity continues with an ad in the November issue of  Presbyterians Today.  Presbyterian seminaries across the country have been contacted for recommendations of alumni as potential candidates. Contact with former clergy has added several  additional  candidates to be researched. The crafting of the Pastor/Head of Staff job description continues, as does the compilation of interview questions to  be used once that point has been reached.  Busy times, indeed!

And we’re online! After approval by the MWPC Session, Presbytery’s Southeast Cluster of Committee on Ministry and last week’s full Presbytery Committee on Ministry, our Ministry Information Form (MIF) has been entered into the Church Leadership Connection (CLC) database and Peter Burr, as Clerk of Session, approved it.  It is currently being processed in Louisville; once an identification number is assigned, we’ll be online for potential candidates to view who we are and what we’re looking for in our next pastor/ head of staff.

The committee is anxious to roll up its sleeves and begin reviewing these forms, as we also begin our own efforts of networking and marketing to find the right person to lead MWPC. At the four hour PNC meeting last Sunday afternoon, the committee devised phone interview questions which reflect the key characteristics desired in our next pastor/head of staff, familiarized themselves with the information to be received on the Personal Information Forms which will come to us and brainstormed ides for the PNC website design.

August 11, 2016

At their Monday evening meeting this week, the PNC was all smiles as they completed the Ministry Information Form (MIF), the first task of the committee in the process of bringing a new pastor/head of staff to MWPC! The next step is to secure Session’s approval of the document; a special meeting has been called for this Sunday, August 14, following the 10:00 am worship service for the purpose of receiving this report. Upon approval of Session, the form will then go to the Presbytery of Cincinnati’s Committee on Ministry (COM) at their August meeting for its approval. Once both of theses approvals have been secured, the form will be posted and our publicity will begin. Here we go! July 31, 2016:
At their meetings of the past two weeks, your Pastor Nominating Committee continued the completion of the Ministry Information Form (MIF). Data has been collected, narratives for the required five questions have been written and undergone a first editing. Names of three required references have been identified; these individuals will be contacted for their approval to serve in this capacity. With input from Personnel and Presbytery of Cincinnati, the discussion of compensation has been started. The entire MIF will be edited yet again at the August 1 meeting.

July 11, 2016:
At this week’s meeting, your Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) welcomed several members of the Transitional Leadership Team (TLT) as they shared insight into the Mission Study report, accepted by Session at its Monday, July 11 meeting. This is valuable information for the PNC as it gives direction to the process of calling a new minister to MWPC. It is the committee’s understanding that Session will soon share this report with the congregation. Continuing the task of completing the Ministry Information Form (MIF), the committee concentrated on the five Narrative Questions and identified the member to craft the narrative for each question. These will be reviewed at the July 26 PNC meeting. June 26, 2016:  Off and Running!
Your Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) held their first meeting last night to begin the process of bringing a new pastor/head of staff to MWPC! And it is a process; one that could take 12 months, 18 months, even two years. The Presbytery liaison, Jill Moormann, led the committee through the Call Process and walked them through the PNC Organization and Guiding Principles. During the course of the evening the committee identified officers: Linda Ulrey and Bill Ryan, co-chairs; Sandy Jones-Croxton, Recording/Corresponding Secretary and Theo Tucker, Church Leadership Connection point person (IT); weekly meeting dates were established going forward. A great beginning indeed! Please keep this committee in your prayers as they embark on this journey:  Tari Anderson, Ken Hamilton, Sandy Jones-Croxton, Bill Klingeman, Debra Ruehlman, Bill Ryan, Theo Tucker and Linda Ulrey.
