Sunday Mornings

9:30a.m.
ECLIPSING EMPIRE: Paul, Rome, and the Kingdom of God
The first half of this 12-week DVD discussion series, featuring Marcus Borg and John Dominic Crossan, will be shown and discussed at 9:30 AM in the Beran Parlor starting Sunday, October 9th and running through Sunday, November 13th. The series is filmed on location in Turkey where Borg and Crossan trace Paul's steps through the Roman Empire, focusing on his mission, character, theology and writings. Supplemental course materials will be emailed to participants.

EMBRACING AN ADULT FAITH: Marcus Borg on What it Means to be a Christian
Greg Svanas will lead this five session DVD series that will introduce those unfamiliar with Marcus Borg, our 2012 Alton Jenkins Lecturer, to his thoughts on the big issues in Christianity. This class is also an ideal opportunity for those wanting to learn more about Christian Theology to explore their faith in a comfortable setting. This class will be offered at 11:00 AM in the Beran Parlor starting Sunday, October 9th and running through Sunday, November 13th, except October 30th.

Tuesday Evenings

FINANCIAL PEACE UNIVERSITY
For those unable to attend last Spring’s offering, Peter Standhart will lead another insightful and informative FPU class that helps you stop worrying about money and assists you in putting your personal finances in order. Classes will be held in the LL Media Room starting on September 20th and continuing through December 13th. You must register on-line to reserve your spot in the class. Thursday Evenings

THEOLOGY TABLE TALK
The book for this year’s Theology Table Talk will be The Case for God by Karen Armstrong. David Warner will again lead the discussion, which meets the 2nd Thursday of each month, October through May, from 5:45 to 7 pm in the Beran Parlor.

      Alton Jenkins Lecture Series
Alton Jenkins was a long-time resident of Cincinnati and member of Mt. Washington Presbyterian Church. He was well known and loved for the classes he taught, which took a scholastic approach to Bible study and religious beliefs in general. Alton passionately sought a faith compatible with his scientific worldview. He enjoyed asking hard questions about what we believe and why. After his death in 2008, his wife Nancy, his family, and his friends created a memorial fund dedicated to continuing this pursuit of biblical understanding by establishing a lecture series. We are excited to announce that MWPC, in cooperation with Christ Church Cathedral, has invited Dr. Marcus Borg, Hundere Distinguished Professor of Religion and Culture at Oregon State University, fellow of the Jesus Seminar, and distinguished author to speak in the fall of 2012. In preparation for his lectures, classes will be offered in several different formats to familiarize us with his some of his thoughts and writings. We look forward to your participation!

              MEN'S DISCOVERY

The Men’s Discovery Group gathers each Saturday morning at the church for coffee, donuts, and lively discussions. There are generally have 10-15 attendees each week. Topics include faith, religion, personal relationships, social and moral issues, science, history, current events and politics, to name just a few!

Men of all ages (whether members of MWPC or not) are welcome to attend. We meet each week at 7:30 a.m. in the church on the 2nd floor over Beran Parlor. Our discussions conclude by 9:00 am. Feel free to drop in any time. If you have any questions, please email us at mensdiscovery@mwpc-church.org

           WINGS Bible Study

Women IN Gods Study - Womens Bible Study
WINGS meets in Beran Parlor every Friday (except the second Friday of the month) from September through August from 9:30am-11:30am. This Fall, WINGS is looking at "Daniel: Lives of Integrity, Words of Prophecy". For more information contact Tracey Martin.

WINGS provides a casual, warm and open atmosphere for study and fellowship. Enter a safe haven from worldly trials and become rejuvenated through Bible studies throughout the year. All are welcome, whether new or well-acquainted with the Bible.

Past studies of the Womens Bible Study Group have included Jesus the One and Only by Beth Moore; Book of Revelation by the authors of the Kerygma program; Sisters: Finding Balance by Becca Stevens; A Spiritual Journey into Gilead by Marilynne Robinson; Beloved Disciple; Intergenerational Relationships, and Praying in the Midst of Life.

Journey together with WINGS as they soar on wings like eagles finding hope and peace in the study of God’s Word.

Childcare is available by reservation for a nominal fee.
