Stephen Ministers

“Bear one another’s burdens, and in this way
you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

– Galatians 6:2

Stephen Ministers care for people facing difficult and trying
times in their lives. They are lay people who have received
extensive training to provide emotional and spiritual care,
both within and outside the MWPC congregation.

Stephen Ministers meet on a regular basis with their care
receivers to walk with them through their difficult times.
Confidentiality is paramount; Stephen Ministers maintain
absolute privacy for their care receivers. They regularly attend
peer supervision sessions to ensure they are providing
competent, compassionate support for their care receivers.

Stephen Ministers are well-trained listeners and spiritual
companions; they are not licensed therapists and counselors.
Stephen Ministers serve as an extension of the MWPC
Pastoral staff.

Some of the areas in which Stephen Ministers offer
care and help to individuals in need are . . .

  • Suffering illness
  • Bereaved
  • Recently separated or divorced
  • In a job crisis
  • New members of the church
  • Disabled
  • Homebound
  • Lonely
  • In a spiritual crisis
  • Looking for a caring, Christian friend

If you are interested in learning more about receiving a

be assigned to begin regularly agreed upon visits with their care receiver.

In Stitches
In Stitches is a circle of Presbyterian Women which has been active since 2005. We are called to live out Christ’s love for one another and those in need through prayer and action. Our action is creating items for others by knitting, crocheting or sewing.

Some of our on-going projects include:

  • sweaters for the Guideposts Magazine Knit for Kids project
  • prayer shawls for those in need of comfort and caring during difficult times
  • helmet liners for those in the military
  • baby caps and blankets for preemies and newborns at local hospitals
  • hats and scarves for those who serve on ships through the Episcopal Church’s Seafarer’s Institute
  • hats and mittens for children in inner city schools
  • We also teach knitting to children in our Super Wednesday program.

Experienced knitters and crocheters are always welcome, and we teach these crafts to those who are interested. We meet the 1st and 3rd Thursday evenings in Beran Parlor from 7-8:30PM.
